苯的危害,並非來自苯分子本身,而是它在體內代謝後產生的毒性代謝物。這些代謝物會像子彈一樣,攻擊你骨髓裡的造血幹細胞,造成嚴重傷害。 The danger of benzene does not come from the benzene molecule itself, but from the toxic metabolites produced after it is metabolized in the body. These metabolites act like bullets, attacking the hematopoietic stem cells in your bone marrow, causing severe damage.

大量的醫學證據已經證實,長期暴露於苯,會導致罹患急性骨髓性白血病(AML)的風險顯著增加。這是一種源於骨髓造血細胞的癌症,非常致命。 A large body of medical evidence has confirmed that long-term exposure to benzene significantly increases the risk of developing Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). This is a highly fatal cancer originating from the hematopoietic cells in the bone marrow.

在癌症發生之前,苯就可能對你的骨髓造成抑制,導致血液中各種血球的數量全面下降。這會引發貧血、免疫力下降、容易出血等問題,嚴重時甚至會導致致命的再生不良性貧血。 Before cancer develops, benzene can suppress your bone marrow, leading to a decrease in all types of blood cells. This can cause problems like anemia, weakened immunity, and easy bleeding, and in severe cases, can lead to fatal aplastic anemia.
如何保護自己?驗血還是驗尿? How to Protect Yourself? Blood Test or Urine Test?
要保護自己,最關鍵的是透過定期檢查,在傷害發生前就發現問題。對於苯作業,台灣法規要求兩種檢查都做! To protect yourself, the key is to detect problems before harm occurs through regular check-ups. For benzene work, Taiwanese regulations require both types of tests!
- 驗尿(暴露生物指標):檢測尿液中的代謝物「S-PMA」。這個數值可以最準確地反映你近期吸收了多少苯。這是預防的關鍵。Urine Test (Exposure Biomarker): Measures the metabolite “S-PMA” in urine. This value most accurately reflects how much benzene you have absorbed recently. This is key for prevention.
- 驗血(效應生物指標):檢測血液中的全血球計數(CBC)。如果紅血球、白血球或血小板數量下降,就代表你的骨髓可能已經受損。這是早期發現的關鍵。Blood Test (Effect Biomarker): Measures the complete blood count (CBC). A decrease in red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets indicates that your bone marrow may already be damaged. This is key for early detection.

苯暴露的風險,主要來自它的高揮發性和高脂溶性。以下這些是特別需要注意的: The risk of benzene exposure mainly comes from its high volatility and high lipid solubility. The following require special attention:
- 石化與化學製造業:苯的生產、提煉和作為原料使用時,管線洩漏或維修都會造成暴露。Petrochemical and Chemical Manufacturing: Exposure can occur during benzene production, refining, and use as a raw material, through pipeline leaks or maintenance.
- 橡膠與輪胎製造業:過去曾用苯來溶解生膠,現在雖然減少使用,但溶劑中的雜質和加熱製程中的揮發物仍是風險。Rubber and Tire Manufacturing: Benzene was previously used to dissolve raw rubber. Although its use has decreased, impurities in solvents and volatiles from heating processes still pose a risk.
- 印刷業:用於清洗印刷機的油墨和滾筒,清洗過程中會產生大量苯蒸氣。Printing Industry: Used for cleaning ink and rollers on printing presses, generating large amounts of benzene vapor during the cleaning process.
- 燃料相關職業:加油站服務員、油罐車司機、汽車維修技師等,在處理汽油時,會吸入油氣中的苯。Fuel-related Occupations: Gas station attendants, tanker truck drivers, and auto mechanics can inhale benzene from gasoline vapors while handling fuel.
綜合防護:三管齊下最安心 Comprehensive Protection: A Three-pronged Approach for Safety
要保護自己,必須遵循「控制層級」原則,從最根本的方法開始: To protect yourself, it’s essential to follow the “hierarchy of controls,” starting with the most fundamental methods:
- 替代(最優先):這是根本之道!盡量改用無苯或低苯含量的替代品。Substitution (Top Priority): This is the fundamental solution! Whenever possible, switch to benzene-free or low-benzene alternatives.
- 工程控制:所有作業都應在密閉系統中進行,並在任何可能產生蒸氣的地方,安裝局部排氣通風裝置。Engineering Controls: All operations should be conducted in an enclosed system, with local exhaust ventilation installed wherever vapors may be generated.
- 個人防護具(最後一道防線):這是不可妥協的。
- 呼吸防護:苯是蒸氣,一般的防塵口罩無效。必須配戴配備有機蒸氣濾罐的防毒面具。
- 皮膚防護:苯能經由皮膚吸收。絕對不能使用丁腈或乳膠手套!必須使用聚乙烯醇(PVA)或Viton®等專門材質的手套。
- Respiratory Protection: Benzene is a vapor; standard dust masks are ineffective. A respirator with an organic vapor cartridge must be worn.
- Skin Protection: Benzene can be absorbed through the skin. Do not use nitrile or latex gloves! Gloves made of specialized materials like Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) or Viton® must be used.
